We're almost there!

I know I have mentioned this before, but my childhood best friend of 22 years made me a promise years ago that she would become the next Oprah Winfrey and allow me to be her personal fashion consultant/card-carrying moocher. Kinda like Oprah's best friend Gail. I try constantly to help her achieve our, I mean HER, goals so we can someday lounge on the private beach in front of her vacation home in the Cayman Islands. (P.S. - Sharon, I already picked it out for you!)

So check out her recent feature on the PayScale blogs website... Way to go!!!

I have been tagged!

I've been tagged.... here are the rules....

THE RULES OF THE TAG ARE:

Each person posts the rules before their list, then list 8 things about themselves. At the end of the post, that person tags and links to 8 other people and then visits those people's spaces and comments letting them know that they have been tagged, and to come and read the post, so they know what they have to do.

I've been tagged...here are the rules
Eight things about me:

1. My hair is NATURALLY curly, no... I don't have a curly perm or use rods.

2. People usually can't tell who is the oldest between myself and my brother (a year and half apart).

3. If I could keep my current salary (or make even more) I would quickly change my career title to "personal shopper".

4. I doodled what is now my tattoo in my notebook during freshman calculus.

5. I ONLY eat lettuce prepared as a salad, I will pick every single shred off of a taco or sandwich.

6. I have food spurts where I LOVE something for a month or so and eat it every day, and suddenly I won't touch it for a couple of years. Just came off the Vanilla Ice Cream with crushed Oreos, I'm moving towards the Del Monte canned Mandarin Oranges

7. I worked at Godiva during undergrad and tried every type of candy in the story within my first couple weeks of working there.

8. I was at the club last night and Rza (from Wu-Tang) looked me in the eye and told me to "smile".... LOL - that was all I could think of!

Nap-town wins again...

This past weekend was my line sister's wedding. It was a beautiful event held at the downtown Hyatt in Indianapolis and quite a few of my line sisters were able to make it. Actually... beautiful is an understatement. That wedding (reception) was off the chains!!!! We had sooo much fun.... and as for the bachelorette party... what happens in Indiana, stays in Indiana!!! :-)

I was all over the dance floor at the reception - amazing since I usually have to be forced to dance. I did every line dance on earth - The Electric Slide, some Chicago-style stepping, The Cha-Cha (Casper) Slide, the Cupid Shuffle, 2-Step, and even tried my hand at the Souljah Boy (which I decided to leave to the teenagers who obviously had practiced that dance for hours). I added links to the online videos for everyone to learn a new dance or two... or just laugh at other people trying to learn. For the advanced crowd, April recommends The Turbo Hustle... that one is NOT for me.... you are on your own with THAT!!!

On the literary tip, I finished the latest book from the Eric Jerome Dickey Collection - Walking with Enemies. Overall I was pleased and satisfied with this follow up to "part one" - Sleeping with Strangers. The suspense was there and the characters were well written... but I have mixed feelings about the first 1/3 of the book reading like pornography. Now I can't wait for his next novel! I gotta say thanks again to "The Guy I've Been Dating" for surprising me with the book. Although the ulterior motive (getting me to summarize it for him so he could participate in literary discussions with his Eric Jerome Dickey-reading V.P. at work) was more than obvious!

Now, for what you've all been waiting for.... *drumroll*.... The item of the day is the "little black dress". Not because I want it to be, for goodness sakes its still SUMMER. And that only lasts so long around here. Its just that I have yet another wedding to attend and we were asked to wear black... not that it will kill me to wear the black dress I wore to the wedding last weekend (although it might and I'd rather not die over a dress)... so I'm on the hunt for a black dress to wear to a summer wedding, where a number of young ladies will also be cloaked in the same color... I must not blend in!!!

Funny... as soon as I posted the last pic I realized.... I have a dress that looks EXACTLY like that one!!!

Last but not least, this is by far the coolest dress alive... The Pamela Dress found at the Little Black Dress Shop (Toronto) can be worn TEN different ways. Here are a few of my favorite options...

*voice of reason kicking in* Maybe I'll be "budget conscious" and wear what I have... but what will I do about shoes??? Stay tuned ladies and gentleman... we have more shopping to do!

Girls Getaway 2007 - The Windy City

Whew - the girls weekend had me beat! Yeah, it was a whole week ago, but I was tired and busy at work trying to catch up... so here's the brief recap:

In an effort to break away from the inconvenience of multiple hotel rooms, we rented a condo on State St, just south of downtown, that we scoped out on one of the rent-by-owner sites. We were a little skeptical in the beginning but as soon as we arrived, there was no doubt. The place was TIGHT!!! It was a 2BR, 2BA over 1500 s.f. all for the nightly rate of $350. For 8 young women (YES, there were 8 of us) it was PERFECT. We have decided that this is the only way to go from now on! Check out the fun...

Pics of the city...

Pics of the condo...

Places we ate... and Harpo Studios...

The girls having fun...

Michigan Ave plant fashions... and a "metal man" with his plastic friend...

...and although I didn't stop by there during this trip... I had to include my favorite discount shopping spot!

Well, we're facing a big thunderstorm/flash flood tonight. Not looking good at all... Kare 11 News interrupted my nightly Jay Leno viewing to show me scary video clips from some of the neighboring suburbs the storm is moving through on its way here... so I'm gonna make the item of the day an item that I wish I could get right now on IMMEDIATE delivery... cause I am going to need it in the morning! Behold the Pucci designer galoshes available at Zappos...

...or save a few bucks and go with the infamous Thomas Pink Wellies...

...or - if you're on a shopping diet like me - you may want to check out Target for a huge selection priced near $20.

Ok, that's all for tonight. I'm going to cuddle with my flashlight and try and drown out the thunderous sounds of this storm passing through. Good night bloggers!!!!

FINALLY!!! Its here!!!

I have so much to tell, but I can't go into it right now because I'm sleepy and have to go to work in the morning. But to my fellow readers who checked out my suggested read back in May... The Sequel to Sleeping with Strangers is officially out! Eric Jerome Dickey calls this one "Walking with Enemies". I am so excited! I was at the top of the library list to check the book out, but I don't know if I'll have time with all of my stuff going on at work these days. I will say that I do plan to finish it before the month is over. Part 1 was such a cliffhanger! Here's the item of the day:

Details and pics from the infamous Annual Girl's Trip to come shortly!!!!

Tragedy - but I'm safe and sound

No fashion today... So I've been getting calls and emails about the latest tragedy to hit Minneapolis. Anyone who has turned on CNN tonight has no doubt seen the destruction that resulted from a major bridge collapse between the University of Minnesota campus and downtown Minneapolis. The pictures are terrifying and the stories are coming in faster than I can keep up. For updated info check our local news station's website at www.kare11.com.

Please keep the families and friends of the injured and deceased in your prayers tonight. If you need some inspiration, go here and browse around. This is a very tragic and unexpected event and most natives are saying Minneapolis has never experienced anything of this magnitude.

The item of the day - at such a sad time - is something we all need, whether we admit it or not. Its a HUG. No matter how fake, funny or weird it looks (see pics below) deep down inside - during that friendly, loving, peaceful, forced, supportive or congratulatory embrace - it feels just the same. HUGS FOR EVERYONE!!!
